A recollection from Steve

We were doing a tremendous number of gigs supplied by Ivan Birchall our agent. One day our pride was stung when at a venue we saw a list of the bands on his books. There was an 'A' list and a 'B' list. WE were in the 'B' list. The following Monday morning (with the band's agreement) I called him and asked him who the hell he thought he was. "We were an 'A' team if ever there was one. What was the process that made this distinction and how could WE be considered to be in the 'B' category".

Well he says that the bands on the 'A' list get preferential treatment and are considered first for any bookings that came in and for that privilege they paid him 15% commission instead of the usual 10%.

"Do you want to be on the 'A' list" He sez. "Wot?" sez I," I INSIST that you put us on it right this moment". 

And thus he increased his income from us in one fell swoop. Not a whimper from us, as we demanded that he charge us more. We were young you see.
