WE, being the Big stars, would arrive in a superb car (mine) and mingle with our fans whilst the roadies toiled at their tasks.

Over the years, we had a number of Transit vans and it was written in the script that occasionally they would break down somewhere. I suppose that if we had been travelling by van, this would not have happened so often but since it was usually "only" the roadies who were inconvenienced, it didn't really matter.

Whilst the van was out of action we would simply hire a van from a local company and get on with it. On one such occasion, our van was out of action for some reason so we hired a replacement vehicle from a company in Newcastle. Unlike our own van, which was a long wheel-based Transit, this replacement had a large box body which was popular with furniture removal companies and which protruded over the top of the cab above the driver's head. It was like a brick on wheels. Dave had gone to collect the gear in this van and we (the Stars) made our way to the gig in the superb car (mine)
